Clare, I think you have a slime mould in the genus Lycogala. Years ago I would have called this Lycogala epidendrum but more recently it has been found that there are several macroscopically similar species so now I'd say your sighing is "Lycogala epidendrum group". The slim moulds in your photo are not yet fully mature, when they would be grey-brownish.
Thanks very much Heino1 for that explanation. I had thought I needed a magnifying glass to see a slime mould. Fascinating. There is an issue with photos. I’ve re-added ones I thought I had included originally.
