The Maugean Skate is endangered and is the subject of much controversy in Tasmania. It's remaining stronghold is Macquarie Harbour. But the Salmon farming industry in that harbour is causing the habitat to be degraded and low dissolved oxygen levels. There have been protests asking for the Salmon farming to be stopped in order to save this fish from extinction.
